"Head Injury Camp"
The Dachau Concentration Camp

In March 1933, a few weeks after Adolf Hitler was appointed Reich
Chancellor, a concentration camp for political prisoners was
erected here. This camp served as a model for all subsequent
concentration camps and as a "school of violence" for the SS men
who supervised the camp.  In the twelve years of its existence over
200,000 persons from all over Europe were imprisoned both here
and in the numerous subcamps. More than 43,000 of them died.
On April 29, 1945, American troops liberated the survivors.  In
1965 the former prisoners' camp became a Memorial Site.
